Rare Earth Magnet Nail Finder

rare earth magnet nail finder

I like the look of reclaimed wood for certain projects, but it does have its pitfalls. One potential problem is discovering a nail after it has nicked your jointer or planer knives or destroyed a saw blade. To combat this, I run a rare earth magnet over the board before milling. It won’t find a nail that’s well below the surface, but it’s a cheap bit of insurance against shelling out for a new blade. – Brad Holden
