Reader Project: DIY Window Seating and Storage

Richard and Susan Barber teamed up to build this 10-ft.-long window seat. Using 2x4s, Richard first built a platform on the floor and rerouted the floor ducts so they would exit at the front of the platform. He set four 12-in.-deep kitchen cabinets on the platform and covered the cabinets with pine boards. Then Susan took over, painting the cabinets and sewing the cushions.

“It’s a nice, sunny spot to sit and read. Lots of extra storage, too.” — Richard Barber
