Reader Project: Fireplace Makeover

I nearly fell over when we got the October 2015 issue of The Family Handyman—the cover photo could have been taken in our living room!

My husband David is The Handyman personified, so when I tired of green paint and an oak mantel, and visualized a stone fireplace, he nailed it!

Not only that, he also agreed to nix the brick hearth and created a custom concrete slab to complement the stunning fireplace transformation.

Oh, and a custom-made (by him, of course) floating mantel painted gray that really rocks the whole wall! — Charlie Riggins
