These are the Least Reliable Appliances in the Industry

Puls, a San Francisco-based company is a nationwide network of more than 5,000 technicians spread across 50 markets in the U.S., conducted a survey on the most and least reliable appliances, the average cost of appliance repair by city, as well as a number of other consumer data.

Puls used Bosch, Frigidaire, Kenmore, KitchenAid, LG, Maytag, Samsung, Sears and Whirlpool in the survey. Whirlpool and Maytag came out as the most reliable brands in the Puls survey but they trailed Kenmore and LG, among others in a Consumer Reports study released in August 2019.

Least reliable refrigerators: Bosch and Frigidaire

Puls notes in its report that named Whirlpool and KitchenAid as the most reliable refrigerators, that Whirlpool ranked highly among repair technicians, in part, because of its brand reputation and because many of its appliances are easier to use and repair. Bosch and Frigidaire were the least recommended refrigerators by the technicians.

Consumer Reports gave Bosch and Frigidaire neutral ratings while Thermador, LG, Kenmore, Sub-Zero/Wolf and Amana got positive ratings.

Least reliable dishwashers: Frigidaire and Maytag

Puls reported that Bosch and Whirlpool are the most recommended dishwashers by its technicians while Frigidaire and Maytag trailed significantly.

Frigidaire and Maytag got neutral ratings from Consumer Reports but Whirlpool, Bosch, Miele and Thermador all got excellent ratings.

Least reliable stove and ranges: Maytag and LG

Maytag and LG had the fewest recommendations by Puls technicians while GE and Whirlpool garnered the most. Puls noted GE’s various price points attract consumers.

Consumer Reports broke down ovens, stoves and ranges by ranges, cooktops and wall ovens. It gave favorable ratings to LG, Bosch, GE, Kenmore, Whirlpool, Frigidaire and Samsung for their ranges. Bosch and Samsung got positive ratings for their cooktops, while LG, GE and Maytag got positive ratings for their wall ovens.

Least reliable dryers: Frigidaire and Bosch

Puls said GE was the most recommended brand among technicians, followed by LG. Frigidaire trailed significantly and Bosch drew the second-fewest recommendations.

Frigidaire’s dryer received a negative rating from Consumer Reports and Bosch got a neutral rating. Consumer Reports deemed Speed Queen’s dryer excellent while Miele and LG got positive ratings.

Frigidaire barely drew a recommendation in the Puls survey and Bosch didn’t do much better. Whirlpool drew the majority of the recommendations followed by LG.

Frigidaire and Bosch received neutral ratings from Consumer Reports but LG earned an excellent rating for its washing machine.

But Bosch was among the brands that Consumer Reports said buyers would do well with. Frigidaire received a neutral rating with its refrigerator. If your refrigerator isn’t cooling, it might be time for a new one or try this repair.

Frigidaire and Maytag received neutral ratings by Consumer reports while LG received a favorable review for its range and a neutral rating for its cooktop. LG received an excellent rating for its wall oven. Maytag received neutral ratings for all but two of its appliances — its wall oven and washer received favorable reviews.

Frigidaire received a negative rating with its dryer by Consumer Reports while its washer got a neutral rating.
